What Google Never Told You About Making Money With AdSense
Reports have shown that Google took in over $14 billion in advertising revenue in 2007 and they are paying out a sizeable portion to people who display the Google AdSense ads on their websites.
While the actual percentage of payout is unknown, those who participate in AdSense are getting checks. Some of those are for large amounts. Thousands of websites use the Google AdSense ads to generate income, whether as a primary source or as an addition to their products. Samples of AdSense ads are shown throughout this site.
The main question I get about the ads is why you would put them on your site, instead of focusing on the main product or service.
The answer I give for that is if your visitors are interested in your services, they will ignore the AdSense ads and buy from you. What happens though, if your visitor is not interested in what you are selling? Will you just let him/her go away to another site? They are going to leave anyway, so why not give them some ideas to continue their search for related products?
Google AdSense does its best to show ads related to your content. That way you may have sent them away, but gain a bonus as thanks for giving them links to visit. The size, positioning and color of your AdSense ads is important and covered in detail in the new AdSense Secrets book.
Since people are pretty much immune to banner ads, there is still room to show the AdSense ads, because they are contextual -- related to your content. Google AdSense is also a great addition to blog articles. You write the content and let AdSense show the ads. Think of it as getting paid to write!
