Before you started marketing your current program, what goals did you set for yourself? You did set at least one goal, right? Without one would be like driving into an unknown area without a road map. Yes I know you have heard or read that many times before, but it pertains to our Internet Marketing discussion today.

The first thing I want you to do it think about all the methods of Internet Marketing that you do. Go ahead, list them on paper or in a note file. That way you can refer to them as you read through this article.

Now, look through that list and check off the following items:

  • How many of the methods are you using that involve interacting with other people?
  • How many of the methods are you using that involve interacting with website software only?

Ok, I sense a question of what the difference is. The difference relies on having discussions with others. You post a message, they post back.

Some examples of non-participation activities:

  • Posting to classified ads
  • Placing banner ads
  • Using Pay-Per-Click
  • Surfing Traffic Exchanges

Some examples of participation activities:

  • Helping others in discussion forums
  • Answering questions on sites like Yahoo! Answers
  • Publishing articles on your blog (because others can comment)
  • Making good use of your MySpace site

While the non-participation activities help get links and visitors to your site, they say nothing about you as a person. Why would you want to let others know about you? Because people enjoy interacting with other people.

They will be more open to buying your products and using your services when they know there is a human being on the other side.

Case in point. I get many phone calls and even more emails, from people asking about becoming a Certified Loss Mitigation Consultant. Here in the USA, stopping foreclosure is a huge topic.

One day last week I answered the phone and the man told me that he had been doing research on foreclosures and loss mitigation. Having seen my name “all over the Internet” as he put it, he then said that I “appear to be the authority in foreclosures”.

Since I had answered the phone, he was already warming up to joining because there was a real person on the other end. After answering some of his questions, he signed up later that day.

Now, what does all that have to do with you? Everything! I put that traffic list together to give you some ideas on how to get out there and get traffic. Now you are learning not only how to get the traffic, but become an authority, or authoritative figure, in your business.

Interact with others and let them know you are there to help. Provide them with good information they can truly use and they will come back for more.
